Chemtech: Analytical Laboratory
Chemtech Agri is an Omnia laboratory facility situated in Sasolburg, South Africa and specializes in the analysis of soil, plant sap, soil analysis and irrigation water analysis. Chemtech Agri is an important component of the Omnia Nutriology® approach which is focused on improving the client’s profitability and lowering his risk.
Since the laboratory’s modest beginning in 1968, it has expanded, driven by the need for soil and plant information and water quality, to where it today has the capacity to handle more than 2 000 samples a day.
The best international laboratory practices plus our own unique innovations have been further refined and included in the new facility which started operating in 2006. Only the finest instruments and technologies are used.
The laboratory is ISO 9001: 2000 and AgriLASA certified.
Standard soil analysis includes the cations sodium (Na), potassium (K), calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg), phosphorus (P), pH (KCI), sulphur (S) and density. Special analyses, such as organic carbon, sand, clay, silt content, micro-elements such as iron (Fe), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), boron (B) and manganese (Mn) are also done. Soil analyses are used by agronomists to make nutrition suggestions for various crops. Many of the soil samples which are analyzed here, are also used for Omnia Nutriology®`s precision farming (OmniPrecise™).
OmniSap®, a diagnostic aid with norms for various plants, was developed to obtain current information regarding the plant’s nutritional status and to react speedily to correct or adapt nutritional procedure if required.
Results of analyses will be relayed to Omnia’s agronomists electronically within 48 hours of receiving the samples. This speedy response could prevent losses due to lower yields and quality
As with nutrients, it is important that micro-organisms in the soil are present in correct ratios and quantities for optimum cultivation. To determine this, our OmniBio™ analysis technology is used.
The analyses include determining the prevalence of bacteria, fungi, protozoa and nematodes. Depending on factors such as crop, soil and climate, it is determined what the optimum relationship of the organisms to each other should be and recommendations are made on how to restore balances, using specific products.
